Enterprise Budgets

The NC State department of Agricultural and Resource Economics has created Enterprise Budgets for grain crops including corn, soybean, and wheat which incorporate different yield targets, regions of the state, and production practices. There are budget examples for organic grains for 2018 which may be good starting point in evaluating your operation’s costs. For more Enterprise Budgets and an updated crop comparison tool for 2023 visit the Enterprise Budgets page of NC State’s Agricultural and Resource Economics Department.

Marketing Organic Grain Crops

Marketing organic grains is very different from marketing conventional grains. The landscape of organic buyers, handling standards, and market differ greatly from conventional grains. For growers just starting to sell organic grains it may be hard to know where to begin. To help producers navigate the organic market, there is a chapter dedicated to organic grain marketing in the North Carolina Organic Commodities Production Guide. This chapter includes information on storage, genetic contamination, budgets, and contracts specific to organic grain crops.

Buyers of North Carolina Organic Grains

Extension at NC State has worked to compile a list of buyers of North Carolina organic grains: Buyers of North Carolina Organic Grains . We are currently working to update this list to ensure up to date information on buyers for 2023.
